My mom has been admitted to the hospital for kidney failure. She thought she had the stomach flu a couple of days ago and she wasn't able to keep any food down. Yesterday she was so dehydrated that my Dad finally took her to the emergency room. After hours in the ER she was given and IV and admitted for kidney failure. Her doctor says that the dehydration could have caused the kidney failure and hopefully she will regain her kidney function in a couple of days but she needs to stay in the hospital for the duration and just in case the kidneys don't recover.
I haven't been to the hospital to see her yet. My clinic has told me to avoid ERs and hospital if I can at early stages of pregnancy. I am really torn between wanting to go to the hospital t0 see my Mom and not wanting to put my pregnancy at risk. To make matters worse, my sister has been out of town as well. So my parents are there at the hospital all by themselves.
I know I am supposed to avoid stress, but how does one really do that? Life is stressful. If it's not one thing it's another.

Ugh, that's really rough. I would stay away from the hospital, sweetie. At least for now, because she might get better and leave the hospital soon. If, god forbid, things don't improve, you can reconsider.
In the meantime, why don't you put together a care package for her. Magazines and crosswords and treats she's allowed to eat. Something to let her know you're thinking about her and you'd be there if you could?
I'm so sorry about your mom. I'm willing to bet, though, that she'd want you to take care of your baby and stay away (that's not meant to imply that if you visit you aren't taking care of your baby, by the way).
I hope your mom makes a complete and rapid recovery.
Oh, Joonie, I'm so sorry! That is so scary and frustrating. I hope the doctors are right about the hydration helping her kidneys function again and that she recovers quickly.
Big hugs to you!
Oh Joonie, this is bad luck. I'm sorry to hear your mother isn't doing so well.
If you want to visit, I think you should go. If you are really too worried call your mother and talk to her about it.
But think about this, I am 9 weeks pregnant and I am a nurse. I go to the hospital everyday. Plenty of pregnant women work at hospitals - nurses, doctors, other staff. You probably have just as much risk going shopping.
I hope she is out quickly and you can spend time together without the worry.
Oh, Joonie. I know those stressors all too well. BE careful and take care of yourself. Get updates from your Dad, talk to your mom on the phone, and go in if the situation gets worse. I'll be hoping for a speedy recovery for your mom. Keep breathing deeply.
The flood is getting worse here and I'll be without internet connection for a few days. I'll check back when I can. I'll be thinking of you, though.
